Our

FAQ's

What kind of lighting do I need?

Choosing the right system depends on getting an accurate assessment of the overall illumination required.

The uniformity of the light across a sports surface is just as important to light beyond the baselines, outside the sidelines and above the court or pitch... in other words to stimulate the natural daylight as near as possible. Uneven lighting will result in objects appearing to travel faster or slower in some areas.

Different configurations will result in more or less evenness of the overall Light. Establishing the required level of illumination is very important. Beginners and intermediate players generally move a ball more slowly, therefore less light is needed to see the ball. Advanced players on the other hand require higher levels of lighting to ensure maximum visibility of the faster travelling ball.

Are Floodlighting Services Floodlight LTA Compliant?

Yes, all of our Floodlight installations are LTA compliant.

LTA is the national governing body of tennis in Great Britain, the Channel islands and the Isle of man.

Where do I start?

Funding or planning. Not the nicest place to start but probably the most logical. Both take a good deal of time and effort to organise and either can scupper your project at an early stage. Some funding will have to be raised by the individual club or organisation; however, grants and loans are available to help subsidise the overall cost.

Planning can be complicated depending on the location of the courts/project and the desired level of lighting.

Can we help with planning?

Yes, we can. Planning your project is the most important step.

Some Floodlighting schemes will require full planning consent. Our lighting consultant will assist you on your journey – using specialist software to produce your Lighting Design which will.

  • Demonstrate required performance standards.
  • Have minimal impact on the local environment.
  • Meet planning Regulations.
Why Choose LED Floodlights over Metal Haylide Floodlights?
  • Sustainability – (lower overall power requirement.)
  • Long Design Life with lower maintenance, no lamps capacitor, Ballast replacements.
  • Superior control Features, instant ON/OFF ability to dim fittings.
  • LED upgrade of floodlights would be more energy efficient therefore cost saving in the long run.
Why do you need floodlights to be serviced?

Floodlights require servicing and maintenance to assess the condition of the lighting masts and to ensure lighting levels are still achieving their optimum efficiency.

Up to 17% of lighting output can be lost through an accumulation of dirt so an annual clean of the glass on your floodlights can make a significant difference.

If the Floodlights are installed in urban areas, there may be higher levels of ‘dirt’ in the environment which can lead to restricted light output. In this case we would recommend a more frequent cleaning of the lights.

At Floodlighting Services, we offer an annual Service for your Floodlights.

We offer a superb floodlight maintenance service to prevent sometimes costly repairs. We recommend the following work is carried out at the indicated service intervals for both traditional metal-halide and modern LED lighting systems:

YEAR 1 – Installation check

YEAR 3 – Major Service including an Electrical Condition Report

YEAR 6 – Major service including Electrical Condition Report. Recurring every 3 Years.

Major Service - This includes a visual inspection of the overall lighting System, cleaning of the glass, alignment and checking the tightness /condition of all fixings and reporting of defects as necessary.

Electrical condition Report - This is taken in accordance with BS 7671 and includes for the floodlights only.

We suggest for the steel columns that regular inspections and Testing is carried out in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations.
